Laser Hair Removal
for Our Transgender Community

For trans women, unwanted hair often impedes a successful transition. Oestrogen does not work to remove facial hair once it has developed in puberty. If you plan on having gender affirming surgery, laser is helpful to remove hair from facial and intimate areas beforehand. Shaving, waxing and tweezing are not only costly, time-consuming and painful, they produce only temporary results.  Laser hair removal delivers a permanent reduction in unwanted hair.

Medical Grade Laser Technology:

We are proud to offer an innovative piece of laser technology to our clients, the Cynosure Elite + Laser. It is the combination of two lasers with gold standard wavelength, the 755 nm Alexandrite laser for light skin and 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser for dark and Asian skin. This new technology can not only remove unwanted body hair, but it can also treat leg veins, diffuse redness, pigmented lesions and many more skin ailments which affect both men and women of all skin types. It removes fine hairs that would normally be missed by other machines, meaning that hair can be removed from all parts of the body, including the face, back, bikini line and underarms.

Our Cynosure Laser Hair Removal Service is almost pain-free and uses a cooling system to make the treatment as relaxing as possible. Our Cynosure cooling system also makes it less likely for hyper pigmentation to occur which is a potential side-effect of other laser hair removal machines.

The Cynosure Elite + Laser is FDA approved and can be used on all skin types.

How The Laser Works

Laser hair removal uses precisely controlled pulses of energy which are absorbed by the melanin or pigment in the hair. Once it reaches active hair follicles, the energy heats the hair right down to the root, safely destroying it without damaging the surrounding tissue or skin. Hair growth occurs in cycles, so a series of treatments are needed to eliminate and reduce the growth each time. We advise a consistent treatment of hair on the face every four weeks and on the body, once every six weeks.

What To Expect During Treatment

Your practitioner will start with the preparation of the skin, clearly marking the area to be treated to ensure absolute precision. The laser machines hand piece is then moved over the area of the skin and activated. During this process you’re likely to feel no pain, although some report a mild stinging sensation much like an elastic band snapping on the skin. Throughout the procedure you will be given protective eyewear.

Post – Treatment

Once the treatment has finished, the laser practitioner will apply aloe vera gel to cool the skin. Any redness in the treated areas will soon disappear, and you will notice the results almost immediately after your first session, depending on the area being treated. We ask clients to keep their aloe vera gel in the fridge to continue application for a few days after treatment.

Treatment Time

The treatment can take between fifteen minutes to forty-five minutes with full body laser hair removal lasting up to ninety minutes.

Suitability For Treatment

The Laser light targets melanin in the dark pigment therefore the laser does not work on white, grey or red hair. If there is some dark pigment in your hair, our system will be effective.

Number Of Sessions Required

Depending on the thickness of the hair and the area being treated, we recommend all clients have a course of around 6 to 8 sessions. Maintenance sessions may be required but will be advised according to individual client results.

Recovery Time & Possible Side-Effects

No recovery time is required however you will need to avoid sunbeds, sun exposure and exercise for 24 hours to avoid irritation. There may be a temporary reddening of the skin and a feeling of heat, this subsides very quickly.

Laser vs IPL

Laser and IPL treatments are both very popular forms of permanent hair removal however although they both use light to heat the hair follicle and prevent regrowth, the technology used the deliver the light is actually quite different!

V

LASER
IPL

Lasers produce a focused wavelength of light,
creating a single beam.

IPL uses a wider range of visible light wavelengths, covering broader areas of the skin.

Allows targeting of specific areas of the skin,
allowing a more controlled treatment and
significantly reducing the risk of skin damage.

Less control in application and not advised for olive skin through to darker skin, as poor results and negative side effects are more likely to occur.

Laser Hair Removal has been clinically proven to be the most effective hair removal treatment for nearly all skin types and Laser and Skin Group are proud to offer industry leading laser technology for all our clients.

Aftercare

Remove any deodorant, perfume, make up or creams from areas to be treated.

Ensure all areas to be treated are shaven 24 hours prior to treatment to avoid rashes, discomfort or less effective treatment.

Avoid hot showers, steam room or sauna for 72 hours.

Keep treated areas free of make-up, deodorant & avoid exercise (sweating) for 48 hours.

Avoid sun exposure, tanning, sun beds or travel to a hot country for 2 weeks.

Allow 6 weeks post-sun exposure before recommencing treatment.

  • Laser Hair Removal may cause increased sensitivity to the skin depending on the skin type and home care regimen. You may experience some redness or erythema, but this will reduce in time.
  • Certain areas such as the face, neck, shoulders, arms, and legs are at a greater risk of unintentional sun exposure and therefore will be considered as high-risk areas for treatment. Where UV cannot be avoided, we ask that you keep the areas you wish to be treated covered and therefore protected, and apply SPF 50 regularly.
  • Please be advised that all makeup, deodorant, perfume, and oil-based products must be removed before treatment. Practitioners will cleanse the area; however, we cannot be held responsible for any of the above products that may lay dormant in the skin pores and can cause an adverse reaction.
